What we can do

The Financial Awareness and Benefits Adviser at the bureau is responsible for assisting clients calculate possible benefit entitlement; claim relevant benefits; liaise with benefit agencies when problems arise; and challenge benefit decisions.

We are also able to assist people at the bureau; at the outreach at Forth Valley Royal Hospital at Larbert; and with home visits to people who are unable to come in person to the bureau.

The current benefits system can be confusing and at times frustrating, so we can assess your entitlement using a comprehensive benefits checker, and then advise you on how to make any appropriate claims.

Benefit changes

Changes to the benefits system following the Welfare Reform Act 2012 will be starting to affect people of working age with the introduction of Universal Credit. At  the bureau we are watching these changes closely and will be able to keep you informed on how they may affect you.

Falkirk Area Welfare Benefits Advice Support Unit

As a result of the changes to the benefits system, the bureau, in partnership with Falkirk Council, Denny Citizens Advice Bureau and Grangemouth Citizens Advice Bureau has been awarded funding to provide a new team of Welfare Benefits Officers.

The Falkirk Area Welfare Benefits Advice Support Unit usually sees clients within one week of receiving a referral and sees clients in 12 venues throughout the Falkirk Council Area or in their own homes if required.
